$1,171Worth it
A job earns about $7,815 in gross profit. Spending $1,171 to win one is inside your $2,605 limit, a third of that profit.
You break even signing 1 in 11 leads. About 7 leads a month is a small sample: one job more or less swings the result. Judge it over three months.

The math
How the math works
Three steps, from what you pay Google to what a signed job earns you.
- 1Clicks to leads
Your budget buys clicks, and some clicks become leads.
For construction and contractors the median click costs $5.31 and 2.61% of clicks become a call or a form, against $7.85 and 7.33% across home services. The click is cheap. The money is lost after it. (LocaliQ, 2025)
- 2Leads to jobs
Your close rate turns leads into signed jobs.
Ad spend plus the management fee, divided by the jobs you sign, is your cost per signed job. That's the number to judge, because a cheap lead that never signs is the expensive one.
- 3Your limit
Set it against what one job earns you.
Job value times gross margin is the gross profit on a job. The share you'll spend to win one sets your limit. The break‑even close rate is how many leads you need to sign for a job to cost exactly that.
Each LocaliQ figure is its own median, so $5.31 a click and 2.61% don't multiply exactly to their $165.67 median cost per lead. (3,211 US home‑services campaigns, April 2024 to March 2025, updated 15 Jul 2026)
If the number is too high
Where to look before you add budget
More budget buys more of the same leak. These three decide most of your cost per signed job.
The wrong searches
Clicks from people who will never hire you
Job seekers, DIY videos and supplier searches all cost a click. A list of blocked words from day one ("jobs", "salary", "DIY", "how to") and a weekly look at what people typed keep the budget on homeowners.
The page
A page that doesn’t turn clicks into calls
Construction ads convert 2.61% of clicks against 7.33% across home services. Send each ad to the page for that job, with a call button and a short form, not to your homepage.
The reply
A lead nobody answers in time
Most ad leads arrive as a form or a missed call while you’re on a job. A text back from your business in under a minute keeps the job yours while you finish what you’re doing.
Questions
Questions about the calculator
Do you save my numbers?
No. The math runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us.
Why cost per signed job and not cost per lead?
Because you get paid per job. A cheap lead that never answers costs you more than a pricey one that signs a bathroom. Cost per lead tells you where the money leaks. Cost per signed job tells you whether the ads pay.
What close rate should I put in?
Your own. Count your last 10 leads from ads and how many signed. If you don't track it yet, try 10% and then 25% and see how far the answer moves.
Why is the management fee in the math?
Because it's part of what each job costs you. Ours is a flat $227 a month with no percentage of your ad spend. Put in 0 to see the ads on their own.
Does it work for Local Services Ads?
Yes, with one change. Local Services Ads charge per lead, not per click, so put your cost per lead where the cost per click goes and set the conversion to 100%. Everything after the lead works the same. How the two kinds of ads differ
